At the end of September 2005, hundreds of Sub-Saharan migrants and asylum seekers tried to reach the European soil via the Spanish enclaves of Ceuta and Melilla. These events had tragic consequences: deportation into the desert, serious injuries and fatalities. Around ten persons died after they were shot at.
At the eve of the plenary debate on migration, the European asylum and migration policy will be examined, in light of the testimony of a refugee deported at the time of the Ceuta and Melilla events by the Moroccan authorities into the Sahara desert, and of the analysis of the President of Migreurop.
The «Black book on Ceuta and Melilla», gathering testimonies of victims of the Ceuta and Melilla events and analysing the possible effects of the EU asylum and migration policy on the respect of fundamental rights, will also be presented.
