The objective of this Communication is to:
Present to the Council and the European Parliament the second generation Schengen Information System (SIS II) progress reportfor the activities carried out in the first half of 2003 and future schedule.
Present an abridged version of the results of the feasibility study, which was carried out on the setting up of a new generation of the Schengen Information System .
Highlight the budgetaryrepercussions of SIS II, based on the detailed budget estimates of the feasibility study.
Suggest solutions for the locationand future managementof SIS II.
Point out how synergieswith a possible future Visa Information System(VIS) could be brought about.
