Lianos Michalis : curriculum vitae

Michalis Lianos is Professor at the University of Rouen-Haute Normandie. He was previously Lecturer at the University of London (Goldsmiths College) and Director of the «Centre For Empirically Informed Social Theory» (CEIST) at the University of Portsmouth. Michalis works on an empirically informed theory of socio-economic and socio-cultural transition in late modernity. He co-ordinated the European project «Uncertainty and Insecurity in Europe» and, besides his work for CHALLENGE, Michalis is also jointly in charge of the conceptual framework of the ‘Integrated’ European Project « A Micro Level Analysis of Violent Conflict » in which 22 universities conduct 28 projects in 50 countries.

Michalis is an Honorary Senior Research Fellow of the University of Portsmouth and associated researcher to the Maurice Halbwachs Research Centre at the French National Research Institute (CNRS), the French National School of the Social Sciences (EHESS), the Ecole Normale Supérieure of Paris (ENS) and the University of Caen. He organised the conferences « Insecurity and Otherness » in May 2007 and « Withstanding Influence: Academic Independence and its Discontents », which will take place in 2008.

Michalis Lianos est professeur à l‘Université de Rouen – Haute Normandie et directeur du Groupe de Recherche Innovations et Sociétés (GRIS). Il a été maître de conférences à l’Université de Londres (Collège Goldsmiths) en Grande Bretagne, puis professeur et directeur du «Centre For Empirically Informed Social Theory» (CEIST) de l’Université de Portsmouth ; il a également été directeur de recherches à l’Université de Caen. Michalis Lianos travaille sur la théorisation du changement social et les transitions socioéconomiques et culturelles dans la modernité récente. Il a dirigé le projet européen « Uncertainty and Insecurity in Europe » et, hormis son travail pour CHALLENGE, est aussi coresponsable du cadre conceptuel du projet européen « A Micro Level Analysis of Violent Conflict » qui comprend 22 universités menant 28 projets dans 50 pays.

Il a organisé la conférence « Insecurity and Otherness » (Insécurité et altérité) en 2007 et la conférence « Withstanding Influence: Academic Independence and its Discontents » (L’indépendance scientifique et ses déplaisirs) qui aura lieu en 2008.
