On 27 November 2008 the European Commission sent reasoned opinions to Austria, Lithuania, Slovenia, Hungary, Italy and Malta to fully implement the Directive on equal treatment for men and women in employment (2002/73/EC). The States have two months to reply. The problems identified by the Commission in the implementation of the Directive in these states include problems concerning the definitions of direct and indirect discrimination, the rights of women on maternity leave and the functioning of equality bodies.
