The author develops a theoratical, sociological framework on crime in the frame of public security debates. Once he summed the sociological data, showing «pyramids» corresponding to the status of the most concerned groups of «criminals» (due to their social position, «race» and gender, etc.), Young criticises six of the most well known theoretical explanation models.
