Thierry Balzacq closed this session presenting a paper on the impact of security discourses and reasons for success.

First of all, Balzacq underlined to what extent the words can have dramatic consequences and, accordingly, the importance of carrying out discourse analyses.

Balzacq stressed the difference between those promoting security and those speaking on security. He also pointed out that in order to grasp the security discourses is fundamental to take into account the context, the audience and the person speaking.

Particularly, he stressed the fact that in order to successfully attain the goals of a discourse it is vital that both audience and speaker are in a similar level of understanding.
