HELSINKI, 2 June, 2004 - In Finland, as of June 2004, a person can include his medical insurance data on an ID card issued by the police. In this case, the card will replace the social security card, that is the KELA card, issued by the Social Insurance Institution of Finland.

In future, an electronic ID certification can be issued also on a mobile phone SIM card. The first such SIM cards will be available at the end of 2004. Also services will be launched that can be accessed via text message.
