Response to the UK’s Draft Anti-Terrorism Bill

Monday 9 January 2006, by Article 19

Article 19 highlight concerns surrounding freedom of expression in the Anti-Terrorism Bill.

Criticisms of the Bill focus on the ‘encouragement’ and ‘glorification’ of terrorism: both offences are deemed to be too vague, resulting in a failure to show intent. Statements that are viewed as indirectly encouraging terrorism breach international human rights standards which demand a clear incitement to violence.
