This very interesting book written by a former international judge in Kosovo deals with the policies of exception that have prevailed in Kosovo. Indeed, he shows that derogatory practices of detention, some of which had been directly «imported» from the practices of the British army in Northern Ireland, have characterized the involvement of the KFOR. Refusing to consider these practices as inevitable in conflict-ridden societies, he insists on the role of the rule of law in the process of pacification.
