A meeting of the Task Force on Organised Crime in the Baltic Sea Regiontook place on 1 and 2 December 2005 in Saariselkä, Finland.
Participants in the Task Force include representatives from the European Commission, and from the governments of Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Russia and Sweden. Interpol and Europol and a variety of other organisations were also invited to participate, in recognition of the role which they play in border security, and the importance of inter-agency cooperation in the fights against terrorism, organised crime and corruption.
Discussions highlighted the importance of coordination and communication between governments and security agencies in participating states. In particular, it was agreed that a proposal aimed at enhancing cooperation with border authorities and establishing contact with Frontex with regard to Intelligence Led Law Enforcement will be completed in the first half of 2006.
