On 3 February 2006, Ministers Verdonk (Immigration and Integration), Donner (Justice), Remkes (Interior) and Kamp (Defence) sent a letter to the Dutch Parliament on the use of border control as a means of combating terrorism (TK 2005-2006, 30315, nr. 3).

Amongst others, this letter mentions the desirability of standard or more frequent consultation of SIS with regard to EU citizens at the external borders. According to this letter, Minister Verdonk will investigate to what extent the EU Presidency and the other EU Member States support a proposal to extend the actual (minimal) requirements with regard to border controls on EU citizens (p. 8).
