Gender mainstreaming has been integrated within the member state’s social inclusion process since 2006 and the first report about this method had been drawn in 2007. The fact that women are statistically more concerned by poverty or access problems to the labour market motivated this manual, in order to stimulate national reports.

In their joint statement Commissioners Ferrero-Waldner, Ashton, Michel and Špidla stated that «Some 165 million children between the ages of 5 and 14 are estimated to be currently involved in child labour. Child labour is a grave human rights’ violation and undermines efforts to achieve the Millennium Development Goal of universal primary education.

The Communication presents the key findings of the Employment in Europe 2008 report. According to the report in 2007 there was a net employment growth of 3,5 million in total employment. In the recent years migrants significantly contributed to the economic and employment growth. In the near future it can be expected an increase in the risks for employment.

The Commission has adopted the multiannual programme under the External Borders Fund 2007-2013 for France for an estimated amount of € 101.8 million, together with the first two annual programmes (2007 and 2008).

This report on financial exclusion addresses questions such as the levels, causes and consequences of financial exclusion, who are those who are mostly exposed to financial exclusion and it formulates policy recommendations on the promotion of financial inclusion. Financial exclusion is very much linked to social exclusion.

On 22 September 2003 the Council adopted Directive 2003/86/EC setting out common rules on the exercise of the right to family reunification by third-country nationals residing lawfully in Member States (hereinafter «the Directive»). It applies to all Member States except IE, DK and the UK.

The Global Approach to migration can be defined as the external dimension of the European Union’s migration policy. It is based on genuine partnership with third countries, is fully integrated into the EU’s other external policies, and addresses all migration and asylum issues in a comprehensive and balanced manner. Adopted in 2005, it illustrates the ambition of the European Union to establish an inter-sectoral framework to manage migration in a coherent way through political dialogue and close practical cooperation with third countries.

The European Commission today proposed legislation on establishing a Critical Infrastructure Warning Information Network (CIWIN) to strengthen information-sharing on critical infrastructure protection between EU Member States.
