• Joint declaration on relations and cooperation between the European Union and new Zealand

  A new «Joint Declaration on Relations and Cooperation» between the European Union and New Zealand was adopted. It covers the varied areas of cooperation between New Zealand and Europe, and will serve as the anchor for the relationship for the next five years. Counter-terrorism cooperation and movement of people form part of the declaration.

• Area of Freedom Security & Justice boosted by launch of ’Justice Forum’

  The Vice-President of the European Commission, Franco Frattini, will unveil today the imminent launch of a unique and innovative new ’Justice Forum’. As of 15 April 2008 a multi-disciplinary, collaborative forum of practitioners involved in judicial and legal processes will come into being. The Justice Forum, in addition to existing processes, will inform the Commission’s work on justice policies and practice.

  Le vice-président de la Commission européenne Franco Frattini annoncera aujourd’hui le lancement imminent d’un nouveau projet unique et novateur : le « Forum sur la justice ». En effet, le 15 avril 2008, un forum multidisciplinaire rassemblant les praticiens qui interviennent dans les procédures légales et judiciaires verra le jour. Le Forum sur la justice complétera les structures existantes et éclairera les travaux de la Commission relatifs aux politiques et aux pratiques dans le domaine de la justice.

• COUNCIL REGULATION on the tests of the second generation Schengen Information System (SIS II)

  he Council entrusted the Commission with the development of the second generation Schengen Information System (SIS II) by Regulation (EC) No 2424/2001 and Decision 2001/886/JHA. The objective of this proposal, and a proposal for a Council Decision on the same subject, is to lay down provisions on the tests to demonstrate that SIS II can work in accordance with the technical and functional requirements set out in the SIS II legal instruments and the non-functional requirements such as robustness, availability and performance.

• Proposition de règlement du Conseil relatif aux essais du système d’information Schengen de deuxième génération (SIS II)

  Par le règlement (CE) n° 2424/2001 et la décision 2001/886/JAI, le Conseil a chargé la Commission de mettre au point le système d’information Schengen de deuxième génération (SIS II). La présente proposition et la proposition de décision du Conseil sur le même thème ont pour objet d’arrêter des dispositions relatives aux essais, lesquels visent à démontrer que le SIS II peut fonctionner en satisfaisant aux exigences techniques et fonctionnelles définies dans les instruments juridiques relatifs au SIS II, ainsi qu’aux exigences non fonctionnelles telles que la robustesse, la disponibilité et les performances.

• Élargissement de l’espace Schengen : réalisation de l’objectif européen de libre circulation des personnes

  À compter du 21 décembre 2007, l’Estonie, la République tchèque, la Lituanie, la Hongrie, la Lettonie, Malte, la Pologne, la Slovaquie et la Slovénie feront partie de l’espace Schengen. Les contrôles aux frontières intérieures, tant terrestres que maritimes, entre ces pays et les quinze États déjà membres seront levés. L’idéal de la liberté de circulation trouvera là une expression très concrète : après ce dernier élargissement, la frontière orientale de l’espace Schengen mesurera 4 278 km.
