The Hague Programme invites the Council to consider the «further development of Eurojust», on the basis of a COM proposal. Furthermore, under the Action Plan for the Hague Programme, COM should have presented a proposal for a ’European law’ (on the basis of the Constitution) on Eurojust in 2006. In view of the developments regarding Constitution/Reform Treaty, COM decided to first adopt a Communication on the development of Eurojust and the EJN.

Le Programme de La Haye invite le Conseil à étudier « la suite du développement d’Eurojust », sur la base d’une proposition de la Commission. En outre, conformément au plan d’action du programme de La Haye, la Commission aurait dû présenter en 2006 une proposition de « loi européenne » (en vertu de la Constitution) relative à Eurojust. Compte tenu de l’évolution de la situation en ce qui concerne la Constitution/le traité modificatif, la Commission a décidé d’adopter dans un premier temps une communication sur le développement d’Eurojust et du RJE.

The European Commission has approved a Communication on the role of Eurojust and the European Judicial Network in the context of the fight against organised crime and terrorism. The Communication sets out the Commission’s views on possible improvements. It will be discussed with Member States at a Seminar in Lisbon 29 and 30 October 2007.

La Commission européenne a adopté une communication sur le rôle d’Eurojust et du Réseau judiciaire européen dans le cadre de la lutte contre le crime organisé et le terrorisme dans l’Union européenne. Cette communication présente l’avis de la Commission quant aux améliorations possibles. Elle fera l’objet d’une discussion avec les États membres lors d’un séminaire qui se tiendra à Lisbonne les 29 et 30 octobre 2007.

The European Parliament and European Commission in the framework of the «2007 European Year of Equal Opportunities for All» organized «The European Parliament of Equal Opportunities for All» conference on 11-12 October 2007 in Brussels. Participants from EU institutions, national and regional authorities, civil society and universities discussed at the conference the European Union’s strategy to combat discrimination. The conference focused on the impact and the effectiveness of European anti-discrimination legislation.

Popular name for Directive 2005/71/EC ’on a specific procedure for admitting third-country nationals for the purposes of scientific research’. In the news because 12 October was the deadline for Member States to implement it, and only 15 had done so.

The visa facilitation and readmission agreements were signed today in a ceremony that took place in Brussels with the participation, from the EU side, of Vice President Franco Frattini (from the Commission) and the State Secretary for European Affairs Manuel Lobo Antunes (from the Portuguese Presidency) and, from Moldova, of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Andrei Stratan.

Les accords en matière de réadmission et d’assouplissement des modalités d’obtention des visas ont été signés aujourd’hui lors d’une cérémonie qui s’est déroulée à Bruxelles et à laquelle ont participé, pour l’UE, le vice-président Franco Frattini (représentant la Commission) et le secrétaire d’État portugais aux affaires européennes, M. Manuel Lobo Antunes (représentant la présidence portugaise) et, pour la Moldova, le vice-premier ministre et ministre des affaires étrangères et de l’intégration européenne, M. Andrei Stratan.

The Commission has adopted a first batch of four cross-border programmes under the new cohesion policy 2007-2013. The programmes concern Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Austria, Italy, the United Kingdom and Ireland. The Commission expects to validate about 50 programmes on EU internal cross-border cooperation over the coming months, involving all Member States.
