• Jurists strike Global Task Force on Anti-Terrorism and Human Rights

  The International Commission of Jurists (ICJ), a global network of judges, lawyers and human rights defenders, has launched a special task force to assess the impact of anti-terrorism measures on human rights around the world and to explore how governments can fight terrorism while respecting the rule of law.

  El 28 de agosto, 160 juristas de todo el mundo, reunidos en la conferencia bienal de la CIJ, adoptaron la "Declaración sobre la defensa de los derechos humanos y el estado de derecho en la lucha contra el terrorismo". Esta Declaración subraya los graves desafíos al estado de derecho que presentan ciertas medidas antiterroristas excesivas, reafirma los derechos humanos fundamentales violados por estas medidas y establece métodos de acción para que la red internacional de la CIJ pueda hacer frente a este desafío.

• The Berlin Declaration: the ICJ Declaration on Upholding Human Rights and the Rule of Law in Combating Terrorism

  On 28 August 2004, 160 lawyers from around the world, meeting at the ICJ biennial conference in Berlin, adopted a Declaration on Upholding Human Rights and the Rule of Law in Combating Terrorism. The Declaration highlights the grave challenge to the rule of law brought about by excessive counter-terrorism measures, reaffirms the most fundamental human rights violated by those measures, and delineates methods of action for the worldwide ICJ network to address the challenge.

  Le 28 août 2004, 160 juristes en provenance du monde entier, réunis à Berlin à l’occasion de la conférence biennale de la CIJ, ont adopté une Déclaration sur la défense des droits de l’homme et de l’état de droit dans la lutte contre le terrorisme. Dans cette Déclaration, la CIJ souligne le défi important représenté par des mesures anti-terroristes excessives pour l’état de droit. Elle réaffirme les droits de l’homme les plus fondamentaux violés par ces mesures et propose des méthodes d’actions au réseau international de la CIJ pour faire face à ce défi.

• Australia - International complaint launched against Global Solutions Ltd over Australian Immigration Detention Centres

  Today, five human rights non-government organisations (NGOs) launched a complaint in the United Kingdom and Australia against Global Solutions Ltd. (GSL) for complicity in serious human rights violations in Australian immigration detention centres.
