• Tweede voortgangsrapportage terrorismebestrijding

  In a letter of 10 June 2005, the Ministers of Justice and Interiors report on the progress of the fight against terrorism in the Netherlands. According to the government, it would be necessary to extend the powers of officials in the fight against terrorism. A new proposal on the prevention, pursuit, and prosecution of terrorist crimes has been send for advice to the Dutch Council of State.

  In a letter of 18 March 2005, the Minister of Interiors informs the Dutch Parliament on the practice of the so-called CT Infobox. According to the Minister, this CT Infobox is not a central information point accessible to everyone searching information in the fight against terrorism. The Minister describes the result of the actual practice as ‘promising’ and in accordance with the expectations of the participating organisations.

• Kamerbrief over verzoek inzake de juridische positie van gevangenen in Guantánamo Bay

  Sinds 2002 zitten ongeveer 600 gevangenen uit de oorlog in Afghanistan vast op de Amerikaanse basis Guantánamo Bay op Cuba. De Nederlandse regering, de Europese Unie en de Raad van Europa hebben nadrukkelijk uitgesproken dat de behandeling van de gevangenen dient te voldoen aan de normen van de Geneefse Conventies en andere relevante regels van het internationaal recht, en hebben hier ook meermalen op aangedrongen bij de Verenigde Staten, laatstelijk tijdens het reguliere EU-VS overleg op niveau van MRA.
