The Central Intelligence Agency is attempting to recruit more spies by advertising on the internet, radio, and television, and holding meetings with American Muslims to make up for a severe shortage of Arabic speakers. Leon Panetta, the new CIA director, will meet with Muslim groups in cities such as Detroit to spearhead the new drive to recruit more Arabic speakers and Muslims. Urdu and Pashtu speakers are also among those being sought in the continuation of an anti-terror initiative launched by former US president George W. Bush.

A link between terrorism plots and hardcore child pornography is becoming clear after a string of police raids in Britain and across the Continent, an investigation by The Times has discovered. Images of child abuse have been found during Scotland Yard antiterrorism swoops and in big inquiries in Italy and Spain. Secret coded messages are being embedded into child pornographic images, and paedophile websites are being exploited as a secure way of passing information between terrorists.

The two ringleaders of a British al-Qaeda-style terrorist recruitment and training cell, who organised terror camps in beauty spots around the UK, were jailed today. Mohammed Hamid - who once called himself «Osama bin London» - and Atilla Ahmet both groomed impressionable young Muslim men to fight jihad against non-believers. Among their followers were several of the failed suicide bombers who attacked the capital on July 21, 2005.
