  • Seminar «Enhancing EU Cooperation in Security: The Treaty of Prüm & the Principle of Availability»

    The seminar seeks to examine the Treaty of Prum in the context of the EU measures and proposals. How will the two venues for cooperation, coordination and harmonisation operate together? What are the tensions present in the new articulation of responsibilities in this field. This seminar is a ’must’ for all policy makers and researchers following the JHA field. It will also address why we have Prüm, and the extent to which this Treaty enhances EU cross-border cooperation in the field of security. Moreover, the event analyses the political and legal implications of data exchange, which is the core instrument of signatories, by comparing it to the principle of availability.
  • Conference: Illiberal practices of liberal regimes?

    Organised in the scope of the Challenge Framework Programme, this conference will be the occasion, for the 23 European partners of the program, to present the state of their research. It will put together, within 8 different but complementary workshops, participants coming from different spheres (scholars, NGOs members, high level members of national as well as European institutions, security practitioners...). The conference aims at highlighting, from a transdisciplinary perspective, the contemporary transformation of the modern state so as to as the question of the illiberal practices of liberal regimes.
  • Conference: Immigration, Liberty and Security from a Comparative Perspective

    Co-organized by the Challenge Framework Programme (hosted at the CERI) and the Immigration and Security initiative Network (CEVIPOF/Sciences Po), this conference aims at gathering high level members of the government and parliament, high profile civil servants of national and European institutions, members of NGOs and European and North American academics to discuss immigration and integration policies, border controls, fight against terrorism. Structured around four round tables, this conference day will focus on the definition of threats and dangers, the changing security practices, the role of judges and the infringement of some civil liberties, as well as their justifications, to assess their legitimacy.
  • War or Crime? Military Action in Peace Keeping and Legal Responsibility

    Prof. Guild launched the seminar by welcoming the speakers and participants. She highlighted that the event was jointly organized by the Centre for European Policy Studies (CEPS) and the Centre for Migration Law (Radboud University of Nijmegen). The workshop took place in the context of CEPS policy research in EU justice and home affairs and the CHALLENGE Research project.

  • Call for Papers - Security, Technology, Borders: EU Responses to New Challenges

    The Centre for European Policy Studies (CEPS) will organize in conjunction with CHALLENGE - The Changing Landscape of European Liberty and Security - its Second Training School on « Security, Technology, Borders: EU Responses to New Challenges», on 6-7 October 2006. The rationale, the call for papers and the structure of the conference are enclosed. The deadline for receiving abstracts is 1st July 2006.

More than 200 camps of foreigners are scattered now all over Europe. Camps of foreigners have multiplied over the last decade to administer entry, detention and deportation of foreigners.
