• Élargissement de l’espace Schengen : réalisation de l’objectif européen de libre circulation des personnes

  À compter du 21 décembre 2007, l’Estonie, la République tchèque, la Lituanie, la Hongrie, la Lettonie, Malte, la Pologne, la Slovaquie et la Slovénie feront partie de l’espace Schengen. Les contrôles aux frontières intérieures, tant terrestres que maritimes, entre ces pays et les quinze États déjà membres seront levés. L’idéal de la liberté de circulation trouvera là une expression très concrète : après ce dernier élargissement, la frontière orientale de l’espace Schengen mesurera 4 278 km.

  As of 21st December 2007, Estonia, the Czech Republic, Lithuania, Hungary, Latvia, Malta, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia will become part of the Schengen area. Controls at internal land and sea borders between these countries and the current 15 member states will be lifted. This will result in a very tangible expression of the free movement ideal: this latest enlargement extends the free movement area by 4,278 km.

Pourtant, parmi les 11 bons élèves européens qui comptabilisent les crimes racistes perpétrés sur leur territoire, 8 ont enregistré, l’année dernière, une augmentation des incidents xénophobes. C’est ce qui ressort du premier rapport publié par la toute nouvelle Agence des Droits Fondamentaux, et présenté lundi en commission des libertés civiles. Selon les mots du rapport, « la violence et les crimes racistes restent une maladie sociale grave à travers l’Europe »

• Amélioration des échanges d’informations dans le cadre de la coopération transfrontière

  Le Parlement a adopté un rapport portant sur le transfert automatisé de profils ADN, de fichiers d’empreintes digitales et d’immatriculations de véhicules dans le cadre de la discussion commune sur la coopération transfrontière en matière de lutte contre le terrorisme et la criminalité. L’avis du Parlement est en l’espèce consultatif, mais les députés souhaitent modifier la base juridique utilisée, afin que le Conseil ne puisse passer outre ses recommandations à la majorité qualifiée.

• Slovak NGOS boycott fake partnership in EU funds planning

  In an unprecedented move, a wide range of non-governmental organisations in Slovakia have decided to suspend the participation of their representatives in the programming and monitoring of EU structural and cohesion funds in Slovakia in protest at the Slovak government’s flouting of the partnership principle which is enshrined in EU legislation.

  The first dedicated legislation on data protection in Slovakia was Act No. 52/1998 Coll. on the protection of personal data in information systems. The Commissioner for the Protection of Personal Data was charged with supervising the system.
