The Federation of Islamic Organizations in Europe (FIOE) condemned the «inexcusable and reprehensible» terror attacks in the Indian city of Mumbai. «The Federation of Islamic Organizations in Europe reminds of the vital importance of exercising self-restraint, and respect for the principle of peaceful coexistence and harmony in community relations in the multi-ethnic Indian society,» said a statement released by the Organization.

On 28 February 2008 the Council decided to authorize the Presidency, assisted by the Commission, to open negotiations for an Agreement between the European Union and Australia on the processing and transfer of European Union-sourced passenger name record (PNR) data by air carriers to the Australian Customs Service. Those negotiations have been successful and a draft Agreement has been drawn up.

En Afghanistan et en Irak, mais aussi aux Philippines, des forces de police efficaces sont une composante importante dans la lutte contre le terrorisme et l’insurrection.

The U.S. detention facility at Guantánamo Bay has become a stain on the United States’ reputation. Shutting it down will cause new problems. Rather than hold terrorism suspects in preventive detention, the United States should turn them over to its criminal justice system.

Le Contrôleur européen de la protection des données (CEPD) a publié aujourd’hui son avis sur la récente proposition de Décision-cadre du Conseil relative à l’utilisation des données des dossiers passagers (Passenger Name Record - PNR) à des fins répressives. La proposition implique des obligations pour les transporteurs aériens de transmettre des données sur tous les passagers des vols à destination ou au départ d’un État membre de l’Union européenne.

The Special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms while countering terrorism, Martin Scheinin, visited the United States of America from 16 to 25 May 2007, during which he met with senior officials of the Government, members of Congress and their staff, academics and non-governmental organizations, as well as with the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights. The objective of the visit was to undertake a fact-finding exercise and a legal assessment of United States law and practice in the fight against terrorism, measured against international law. His visit also aimed at identifying and disseminating best practice in the countering of terrorism.

The Council of Europe’s Commissioner for Human Rights, Thomas Hammarberg and the Special Rapporteur on the right to adequate housing of the United Nations Human Rights Council, Miloon Kothari in their press release from 24 October 2007 stated that the housing rights of Roma are violated in several countries of Europe. The "rate and number of forced evictions of Roma have grown dramatically, and segregation and ghettoization in the housing field appears to have intensified and become entrenched in recent years". The experts called on the governments to take positive measures in order to protect the housing rights of Roma in Europe.
