L’année 2008 a encore une fois souligné une activité en pleine croissance pour la CNIL. En 5 ans, le nombre de délibérations adoptées par la CNIL a crû de 765%. Quant aux contrôles, ils ont crû de 1534% sur la même période. Les effectifs ont eux augmenté de 60%.

The Commission has adopted a new EU strategy for youth policy for the coming decade. Entitled «Youth – Investing and Empowering», the new strategy acknowledges the fact that (1) young people are one of the most vulnerable groups in society, especially in the current economic and financial crisis, and (2) in our ageing society, young people are a precious resource.

The European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) today releases results of the first ever EU-wide survey on immigrant and ethnic minority groups’ experiences of discrimination and racist crime. The survey reveals that discrimination, harassment and racially motivated violence are far more widespread than recorded in official statistics. The results suggest a sense of resignation among ethnic minorities and immigrants who appear to lack confidence in mechanisms to protect victims.

«Although efforts have been undertaken, serious concerns remain about the situation of Roma, migration policy and practice, and the non-respect of binding interim measures requested by the European Court of Human Rights» said today Thomas Hammarberg, the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights, presenting his report on Italy. «The authorities should condemn more firmly all racist or intolerant manifestations and ensure effective implementation of anti-discrimination legislation», he said He also recommends that the representation of ethnic groups in the police should be increased and that an independent national human rights institution, such as an Ombudsman, should be established in order to reinforce human rights protection.

Although companies across Europe are continuing to make substantial job reductions, there has been a fall-off in the number of announced job losses in March compared to previous months.
Nevertheless, as overall business and consumer confidence remain at low levels, further deterioration in the labour market situation can be expected in the coming months.
